Kalmar solutions have pioneered the automation of container handling equipment ever since the automated Kalmar Driver Assisting Features (DRAF™) was introduced in the early 1990s. Today, we at Cargotec work hand-in-hand with customers and partners to develop and implement everything from onboard smart features for container handling equipment to fully automated yard handling systems.
As containerisation continues to grow, we believe that terminal operators will maximise productivity and minimising costs by increasing their use of automation. Intelligent handling solutions can also be the answer to labour shortages and can assist in promoting environmentally sound operations.
Key automation projects in which we have been involved include the world’s first AutoStrad terminal at Fisherman Islands, Brisbane, Australia, which has now seen its first year of full-scale commercial operations. In Europe, meanwhile, Cargotec is currently involved in converting HHLA’s Container Terminal Buchardkai in Hamburg to an automatic stacking crane system.
